Instagram Carousel Size Guide: 1080 x 1350 and Other Shapes
The short answer
Use 1080 x 1350 pixels. That is the 4:5 portrait shape. It takes the most room in the feed, so your photos look large and people see more of your design.
All carousel sizes
Portrait 4:5 is 1080 x 1350 pixels. It is the best choice for most carousels. Square 1:1 is 1080 x 1080 pixels. It suits quotes and simple graphics. Landscape 1.91:1 is 1080 x 566 pixels. It shows wide scenes, but it is smaller in the feed.
Instagram uses the shape of the first slide for the whole post. If slide 1 is portrait and slide 2 is square, slide 2 is cropped. Always use one size for all slides.
Safe area for text
Keep important text and faces about 80 pixels away from every edge. Phones round the corners, and the profile grid can crop the picture to a different shape.
Put the main idea of slide 1 in the middle of the slide. That way it still reads well in a crop.
File format and quality
Export PNG or high quality JPG. Instagram compresses every image, so start with a sharp file. Do not upscale small photos. A blurry photo stays blurry.
Seamless carousels and size
In a seamless carousel, the width of the full design is the number of slides times 1080 pixels. A 5-slide design is 5400 pixels wide and 1350 pixels high. The Instagram Carousel Maker cuts it for you, so you do not need to measure.
